Measures and attributes are used in AI-Powered Analytics to control how data is grouped, calculated. When selecting a chart type in your dashboard, you’ll often be prompted to choose measures and attributes to refine your visual.
Measures
A measure is a number that gets calculated or summarized in your chart. It’s dynamic, meaning it changes based on the filters or groupings you apply.
Examples of measures are:
- A number extracted directly from your data, e.g. total transactions or number of trading programs.
- A number calculated using different parts of your data, e.g. Actual earnings = Total earnings − Transactions.
Measures are the "math" part of your analysis - Enable does the calculating for you.
Attributes
An attribute is a label or category used to group your data. It’s typically text or a fixed value, and doesn’t change when calculations happen.
Examples of attributes are:
- Trading partner name or reference.
- Dimensions or their attributes, e.g. product categories or branches.
- Program line fields, e.g. mechanism name, program line type, or payment frequency.
- Status fields, e.g. renewal, workflow, or activation status.
Attributes are used to organize and compare your data. For example, you might want to see total earnings by trading partner or transactions by program line type.
